Darlene had grown up on her fathers ranch on Moorehead Island off the coast of Virginia where they raised cattle and broncs. Their ranch had been named Moorehead Roughstock Co. as they were the only bucking bronc and bull ranch on the island at the time. Which also meant limited events as they were beginning to bring that sort of environment to the island. As Darlene grew she knew she wanted to stay in the family business of horses and cattle, but she wanted to do it on her own. As much as her father wanted her to take over the ranch, she did have three older brothers whom were more willing to take the place. Finally when Darlene was 25 years old she decided to move out to Texas and began working as a ranch hand and exercising horses, saving up money for her own place. Within 3 years Darlene had finally saved up enough money to purchase her own little piece of land here in Texas.
